I know a lot of people groaned when they heard that this year’s Law and Order spin-off will be Law and Order: Los Angeles. Not only is the franchise making an unprecedented and potentially risky leap away from New York City, the naming convention of having a city in the last half kind of reeks of CSI naming convention… and we know how CSI is seedy compared to the stoic nature of Law and Order.
So I just browsed over to the IMDB.com page for L&O:LA (LOLA?), to see who is cast, and was pleased to learn that Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame will be series regular. I’d like to see her be a gritty and intelligent “DDA Eva Price” (a detective?).
Kristin Kreuk has played some interesting characters in her life: as Laurel Yeung in Edgemont after a casting call looking for an “exotic-looking girl”; as Lana Lang, whose not a ethnic character, I believe; as a Pakistani woman in a Canadian-made Indian movie; finally, as full-blood Chinese Chun Li in a Street Fighter movie.
It’s all funny and intriguing because her bio says that she is half Dutch (by her father, as you can tell from her name) and half Chinese. Oh yeah, and she hails from Vancouver!
