Remember that Studio Ghibli marathon?

A little while ago, I’ve watched all of the Studio Ghibli films I set out to watch, all while running on a treadmill (plus countless other movies and television shows)
Here is my ranking.

  1. Ponyo (2008) – my favourite by far with just a smear of the other-worldly – it was a twist on the Little Mermaid tale and most of the time, I was just transfixed on how cute the characters were – I just want to be a pleased and charmed viewer
  2. Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) – this was intriguing and not too bad – I can’t say I understood exactly what the curse and conditions of release were but it was a lovely, off-beat romance
  3. Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989) – just a story about a girl coming of age
  4. Castle in the Sky (1986) – not a bad introduction to Studio Ghibli – kind of classic anime for me with that tall dark villian
  5. My Neighbor Totoro (1988) – I was on edge something horrifying was going to happen
  6. Princess Mononoke (1997) – didn’t like the spiritual message, or the slightly period piece – wasn’t quit es
  7. Spirited Away (2001) – this was stranger and worse than the last one I watched (Princess Mononoke)

Then I took a bit of a break and I haven’t been in the mood to watch the ones I had put on my B-list although I had acquired them. No matter the premise and strangeness, I will watch the last film,
